The Extended Producer Responsibility – EPR

What does EPR mean?

The abbreviation EPR means „Extended Producer Responsibility“. It is about the manufacturer being responsible for his product - starting from the design to the take-back and a proper disposal. The goal is to keep the environmental impact as low as possible throughout the entire product life cycle.

Who is affected by the EPR registration obligation?

You are considered an EPR-registered manufacturer if you:

  • manufacture a product that is covered by the EPR regulations in the relevant country, or
  • import a product that is covered by the EPR regulations in the relevant country, or
  • sell a product that is covered by the EPR regulations in the relevant country and you are not established in that country.

NOTE: Even if you are not a manufacturer but still sell products that fall under the EPR regulations, you must request the EPR registration number from the upstream supplier. If you do not receive it, you have to register yourself in order to be able to resell the respective products.
